Tired of Knee Pain Limiting What You Can Do?

Does this sound familiar?

  • You’ve tried stretching, medications & injections, massage, other physical therapy, rest, but the problem keeps coming back.

  • You keep modifying workouts, practices or daily activities around it.

  • You hesitate before squatting or running.

  • You notice stiffness, discomfort or restriction during sitting or kneeling on the floor

  • You’re frustrated by not knowing what will flare it up next.

  • You’re starting to wonder whether this is just your new normal.

It doesn’t have to be.

Why Does Your Knee Pain Keep Coming Back?

Most episodes of knee pain improve with time, but you end up weaker in the long run, which causes the cycle to continue.

The reality is that persistent or recurring pain often involves more than the irritated area itself. Likely something else isn’t doing its intended job.

Lack of mobility or strength in other areas, daily movement habits, previous injuries, training demands, lifestyle habits, recovery, stress and the state of the nervous system can all influence what you feel.

Understanding that the body works as an integrated system rather than chasing symptoms is why we don’t only ask, “Where does it hurt?”

We ask, “What might be contributing to this—and what does your body need to confidently handle the things you want to do?”

Your Body’s Protection System

Pain is partly protective, a mere output of all the inputs you receive.

Think about touching a hot stove: your nervous system reacts, causing you to reflexively pull your hand away before you’ve had time to consciously think about it.

After injury or repeated painful experiences, trauma events even, your body can sometimes become more protective around certain movements, positions or loads.

These protective patterns can sometimes linger long after the tissues themselves have healed.

That’s why recovery isn’t only about making tissues stronger or more mobile.

We also remove unnecessary protective layers and progressively rebuild confidence and capacity in the movements your body has learned to guard.

What If Your Knee Pain Isn’t Really A Knee Problem?

Your knee doesn’t move in isolation. It is really subject to what the foot/ankle and hip allow.

Your thoracic spine, hips, ankles, feet and the rest of your body all participate in the movements you perform every day.

Each major segment in your body has a primary design. If one area isn’t contributing the way it is supposed to, another area may have to do more.

That’s why your assessment doesn’t stop at the painful area.

We look at how your entire body moves and determine which findings are actually relevant to your symptoms, goals and activities.

Your Path Back to Movement Freedom

Step 1: REVEAL

Step 2: RESET

Reduce barriers to better movement.

Hands-on treatment, nervous-system strategies and targeted movement are used when appropriate to decrease symptoms, reduce guarding and prepare your body for meaningful movement.

Understand what’s keeping you stuck.

A comprehensive evaluation combines your history, movement analysis and a whole-body joint-by-joint assessment to identify the factors most relevant to your pain and goals.

Step 4: RENEW

Step 3: RESTORE

Go beyond pain relief.

The goal isn’t simply to make you hurt less.

It’s to build enough capacity and confidence to train, play, work and live without constantly worrying around it.

Rebuild what’s missing.

We progressively restore mobility, strength, coordination and fundamental movement capacity through one-on-one coaching and simple personalized and progressive homework.

How the process progresses

We rebuild movement from foundational patterns toward increasingly complex, athletic tasks. If your knee, hip or ankle doesn’t move fully, we start there.

If you can’t touch your toes or squat fully or with good quality, that’s next, and it’s all rebuildable.

Rather than repeating the same exercises indefinitely, your program progresses as your access and capacity improves.

You may work on mobility, strength, coordination, balance, movement skill and athletic capacity depending on what your assessment reveals.

Your plan is individualized to your starting point, goals and response to treatment.

Success Story

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I first came to Dr. Keilman a few years ago after my second significant knee injury. I had previously torn the ACL, MCL, and meniscus in my right knee and gone through surgery and physical therapy. Later, after another meniscus injury, I found myself struggling with the other knee despite months of traditional physical therapy.

At that point, I was limping, my knee was swollen and painful almost every day, and I couldn’t even fully straighten my leg — which was especially significant because I’m naturally hypermobile. I travel for work, and there were times when simply walking through a conference or around a city became so painful that I could barely get around. I was eventually told by my physical therapist at the time that my range of motion was “within normal limits,” that this was probably as good as it was going to get, and that I could go work on it at a gym.

Thankfully, a friend recommended Dr. Keilman.

The difference has been remarkable. He didn’t just focus on my knee; he looked at how my entire body moves and helped identify and correct the mechanics contributing to my problems. Over time, we worked through my movement patterns, alignment, strength, and the interconnected issues affecting not only my knee but the rest of my body.

Today, I don’t limp. My knee no longer swells every day. I can walk, travel, exercise, and do the things I want to do without constantly thinking about whether my knee is going to stop me.

One of the things I appreciate most is that he doesn’t just tell me what exercise to do — he helps me understand why. I’m an engineer, and he has been able to explain the biomechanics, kinematics, and even the physics behind how my body is moving and how it should move. Understanding the “why” has allowed me to apply what I’ve learned outside of physical therapy and make it part of how I move and exercise every day.

He has helped me with far more than an injured knee. He has changed the way I understand and use my entire body, and that has genuinely affected my quality of life.

I can’t recommend him highly enough. Five stars without hesitation.
